How Everyday Habits Affect Your Teeth

When it comes to looking after your oral health, one of the most understated factors is how everyday habits affect your teeth.

In this article, we look at three of the most common habits, allowing you to avoid their damaging effects.

Avoid sugary drinks

If part of your daily routine is to reach for a can of pop, then this is a prime example of how everyday habits affect your teeth.

Too much sugar on a daily basis is a sure way to damage your teeth, increasing the likelihood of cavities and other damage. Sugary drinks aren’t the only culprits to affect your teeth, though they are so often linked to an individual’s daily routine, that they are one of the primes examples of how everyday habits affect your teeth.

You don’t necessarily need to give up sugar, or sugary drinks entirely; however, limiting your intake will certainly help with maintaining good oral health.

Brush often

Time is often precious in the morning and fatigue is a common complaint before bed, but brushing your teeth thoroughly on both of these occasions is crucial. If you can fit in brushing after meals, as well, you will certainly be giving your teeth the best care and greatly reduce your risk of decay.

A good brushing regimen is another of the predominant everyday habits that can promote good oral health over the long term.

Treat your teeth with care

While this may sound like an obvious point, using your teeth for purposes other than what they are designed to do, is not recommended.

One particularly good example of inadvisable use is using your teeth to open bottles, cans and other items. In doing this, you greatly risk damaging your teeth, potentially even resulting in a tooth loss. Protect your teeth and use the right tools for the job instead.

Consult with your dentist

The three examples above are certainly not an exhaustive list, as there are dozens of other examples of how everyday habits affect your teeth.

If you’re unsure about whether a certain habit, dietary choice, or another element of your daily routine may be affecting your oral health, you should consult with your dentist at your earliest opportunity.

Me and my family love coming to this dentist. We never feel uncomfortable. We have had many other dentists in the past but Halo is our favourite. We love the receptionist, Sukhi, she is very kind and always has a smile on her face. She greats everyone with the same kindness and makes them feel good. All around everyone I have met at Halo are kind and make sure you are the number 1 priority. We always feel like we are with family when we go to Halo. I would highly recommend coming to Halo Dental because they care about each and everyone of their clients. We will always continue to go to Halo Dental as long as we live.

The best clinic I have been so far. I have been in Canada from last 29 years and could not find a good dentist. Just move to New Westminster two years ago and visited the Dentist in the community. Dr. Bajaj was very very professional and caring. I would recommend her to every one.
